Steps to Host an AAU Dance Competition
Review the AAU Dance Handbook specififc to the category of Dance you are interested in
Review the AAU Dance Handbook for guidelines and rules. A current copy of the Handbook can be downloaded by clicking on the Rules button to the left.
Contact the AAU National Dance Committee
If you are interested in hosting an AAU Dance competition, contact Jackie Fullmer, National Dance Chair, at 435-753-0079 or jackiefullmer@hotmail.com or Amanda Stokes, AAU National Office, at 407-934-7200 or amanda@aausports.org for assistance. The AAU may know of others in your areas that are looking for competitions.
AAU Club Membership
Clubs, studios, schools and other organizations may also join the AAU as a member club. Club Level II Membership is necessary to apply to sanction an AAU competition. Other benefits of joining as a club include receiving AAU mailings, event notifications, membership certificate, voting rights in AAU elections and club practice insurance. Individual Athlete/Non-athlete Membership
To participate in an AAU sanctioned event, each athlete and coach must be members of the AAU. AAU membership is $12 per athlete and $14 per coach. As a member of the AAU, you can participate in any of the 32 sports offered by the AAU. The membership year is from September 1 through August 31. Membership must be renewed each year to be valid.
AAU membership provides each member with accident insurance (which is secondary and comes into force after any primary coverage) for all properly sanctioned AAU events. AAU membership also provides each member with similar coverage during supervised practices of member clubs.

AAU Sanction Application
No event is an official AAU event unless the host has obtained an AAU sanction prior to the start of the event. Sanctions are mandatory if you plan to host an AAU event. To apply to sanction a tournament or league, complete the online AAU Sanction Application. You will need to be a registered AAU Club Level II in order to sanction an event.
All participants in AAU sanctioned events must be individual members of the AAU. As the club sanctioning the event, it is YOUR responsibility to verify that each athlete and non-athlete is a current AAU member.
Request for Certificate of Liability Insurance
If the facility or venue requests a certificate of liability insurance, complete the online Request for Certificate of Liability Insurance Application. This application only needs to be completed if it is requested by the facility or third party. The processing fee is $35.00 per request if submitted online 30 days prior to the date of the event. If submitted less than 30 days prior to the date of the event, the fee is $100.00 per request..
Announcing the Event to Others
Once your dates are set and your sanction is approved, you can begin advertising the tournament to schools, studios and community/recreation programs. As a sanctioned tournament, you must use AAU in the event title. Entry forms should be developed and distributed to teams. Be sure to contact the AAU National Headquarters with dates and information on your event. The AAU can help you distribute information to teams, post information on the AAU web site, develop entry forms and more.

Order AAU Medals and Awards
As a benefit of sanctioning your tournament through the AAU, you can order AAU medals and ribbons.
To order awards, you must submit to the AAU National Headquarters:
(1) Awards Application
(2) Tournament Flyer
(3) Signed Copy of the Approved Sanction
(4) Appropriate Fees.
Championship Medals are available for district and regional championships. Sports for All Medals are available for invitational, league, open, or preliminary events.
Ribbons are available for first through eighth place, plus merit. Orders must be received at the AAU National Headquarters at least 30 days prior to the event. Orders received less than 30 days prior to the event will be assessed a $40.00 late fee. A shipping and handling fee of 10% of the total will be charged to each order.

Incident Report Application
In case of any incidents during your event, make sure you have copies of the Incident Report Application at the tournament. This application should be completed and submitted to the address on the application immediately after an incident. This holds true whether the person involved is a participant or spectator, or whether or not you feel the incident will result in a claim. Please follow all the directions on the application. Results and Event Wrap-Up
After the event is complete, please send a copy of the results and list of participating teams and coaches to Jackie Fullmer at jackiefullmer@hotmail.com and the AAU National Headquarters at amanda@aausports.org. Results will be posted on the web site. .
